Fire door inspections

Fire doors keep escape routes usable during a fire. We inspect each door and give you a documented report of its condition and any work it needs.

What the law says

Article 17 of the Fire Safety Order makes it a legal requirement to ensure that fire-resisting and escape doors are correctly installed and adequately maintained, so they are fit for purpose. The responsible person needs to make sure the doors are inspected by a competent person.

Fire doors play a major part in giving people a safe route to escape. They should be treated in the same way as alarms and extinguishers when it comes to inspection and maintenance.

Questions we're often asked

Are fire door inspections a legal requirement?

Article 17 of the Fire Safety Order requires fire-resisting and escape doors to be properly installed and maintained. In blocks of flats over 11 metres, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 also require quarterly checks of communal fire doors and best-endeavours annual checks of flat entrance doors.

How often should fire doors be inspected?

It depends on the building and how heavily the doors are used. Many clients choose a six-monthly or annual inspection, alongside the routine checks required in higher-risk residential buildings.

What do we get after the inspection?

A documented report showing the condition of each door, with photographs and any recommended remedial action.
